Feeling all the Feels: Why getting into your body is SO necessary

It's so strange when you first start to feel yourself in your body.
You might think "of course I feel my body, I use it every day" - but there's being there and being HERE - inside it, knowing yourself.
It's knowing what it means when you get that lump in your throat, the burning sensation in your face, the stabbing in your stomach, the strangling in your neck, the tightness in your shoulders, or the tingling in your feet.
It's knowing what to do, how to respond, and how to use it to your advantage as a guide. When you don't know what it is - it is just plain uncomfortable. It's embarrassing and a burden that you pointlessly wish you could eliminate. If you could see it for what it truly is, your body talking to you, you will see that it is trying to help you - it has your best interest at heart!
Being able to identify a feeling in your body is not something that happens over night. It takes being in a working relationship with yourself. Getting to know it through experiences and situations. Getting uncomfortable when you would really rather cut off and avoid.
Living every day of your childhood life in fear, stress, anxiety and repressed anger, sadness, frustration and helplessness teaches you that feelings are not safe. They hurt and you don't know what to do with them. There is nobody to talk to, nobody you can trust.
So you're left alone with all sorts of gut wrenching, heart twisting, awful, stinking feelings. They are like mould that festers and grows when locked in a moist room. Feeling and allowing those yucky feelings is learning to love that mould which I am sure just the thought of makes you sick.
That's just the beginning.
The start is always the hardest. Opening that door to mould is going to be a bit of a shock to the system... but guess what, then you get to clean it. While cleaning sucks, we all love that feeling at the end when you see a clean, sanitary, inviting space.
That sense of accomplishment brings a smile to your soul.
It's so necessary to go from just surviving to thriving.
It's so healthy.
If you want anything to go well in your life, you have to start here. The shit bit. I know. The best part is that you can ask for help at any time. There is help, all you need to do is reach out.
You can do this <3
